Hoag opens $1 billion Irvine hospital expansion (dotmed.com) — Hoag has opened a massive six-building expansion of Hoag Hospital Irvine, boosting capacity to 251 beds and adding new operating rooms, cancer services, and a dedicated Women's Hospital. Irvine residents now have expanded access to maternity care, a Level III NICU, digestive health, and what Hoag calls Orange County's first dedicated cancer urgent care center, all on a single, modernized campus.
   

2. Police Evacuate South OC Shopping Center Amid Pipe Bomb Scare, 2 Arrested (patch.com) — Police evacuated Orchard Hills Shopping Center in Irvine Tuesday evening after a resident's tip led officers to a car containing a suspected pipe bomb at the Chevron station. Bomb squad technicians rendered the device safe, and two men from Corona and Simi Valley were arrested on weapons and narcotics-related allegations. Authorities stress that community reporting made the swift response possible.
   

3. Irvine Police seek two suspects after $600 Target theft on Jamboree Road (newsantaana.com) — Irvine police are asking for your help identifying two suspects after a woman allegedly left the Jamboree Road Target with about $600 in unpaid merchandise and shoved a loss‑prevention worker with her cart. Investigators released surveillance images of the pair and their gray Mercedes‑Benz and outlined the range of potential California charges, from petty theft to robbery, tied to rising retail crime across Orange County.
   

4. Former Rep. Katie Porter appointed to Community Colleges Board (kesq.com) — UC Irvine law professor and former congresswoman Katie Porter, who previously represented much of Irvine in Washington, has been appointed to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. Her new statewide role will influence policy for 116 community colleges, while she continues teaching in Irvine and highlighting the connection between community colleges and UC campuses like UCI.
