City launches innovation center to help local startups (irvinestandard.com) — Irvine is launching the Irvine Center of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Discovery Park, giving local founders flexible workspaces, prototyping labs, and on-site advisers under one roof. Backed by $7.7 million in outside investment, including federal funds and Irvine Company improvements, the 25,000-square-foot hub aims to keep startups and high-growth jobs rooted in the city.
   

2. Beyond the hike (irvinestandard.com) — Nature lovers around Irvine Ranch have a full slate of guided programs this month, from watercolor landscapes in Berns Canyon and birding by sound in Bommer Canyon to bat walks in Limestone Canyon. You can also join a meditative stroll at Nix Nature Center or explore tide pools at Crystal Cove, all led by naturalists and volunteers eager to share local ecosystems.
   

3. Uncle acquitted of murder in fatal Irvine freeway crash that killed his niece (ocregister.com) — A jury has acquitted a 38-year-old man of second-degree murder in a 2021 DUI crash on the I-5 in Irvine that killed his niece, but convicted him of injuring her friend. He received a five-year sentence yet will be released because his time in local jail already equals the term.
   

4. Update: 3.2 magnitude earthquake shakes near Ontario, CA on Sept. 2 (fresnobee.com) — Residents in Irvine were among those who reported feeling a mild 3.2 magnitude earthquake centered near Ontario early Wednesday morning, according to USGS reports. While shaking was weak and no damage is noted, officials remind locals how to stay safe during future quakes, including drop-cover-hold techniques and precautions whether you're indoors, driving, or in bed.
   

5. Olivia Rodrigo and Zara Larsson Celebrate Women-Led Daisy Chain Fields Festival (vermilioncountyfirst.com) — Irvine just hosted the first Daisy Chain Fields festival, where Olivia Rodrigo led a women-focused lineup and announced $20 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls, with another $10 million pledged by Melinda French Gates. Fellow pop star Zara Larsson praised Rodrigo's talent and character, underscoring the festival's mix of big-name music, community spirit, and philanthropy.
