The City of La Quinta will host its annual Hunter Lopez Lightsaber Vigil on Wednesday, August 26, inviting the community to honor the life of U.S. Marine Cpl. Hunter Lopez and his fellow service members who lost their lives during the 2021 Kabul Airport attacks.
A beloved Coachella Valley resident and devoted Star Wars fan, Hunter Lopez is remembered each year through a community lightsaber vigil to honor and remember the sacrifices made by America’s military heroes. Mayor Linda Evans, members of La Quinta's City Council and community leaders will be in attendance.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lightsabers to honor Hunter Lopez, and his parents have invited the community to bring photos of loved ones who served in the military or as first responders to honor them as well.
