Merchants Support LCF Educational Foundation Every 15th
On the 15th of each month, LCF shops and vendors volunteer to donate a percentage of their sales to the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation.

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation is dedicated to helping LCF schools stay on top. The volunteer-run organization works with the community to raise funds that directly support school programs, projects and even staff salaries. LCFEF also runs an endowment focused on providing for the long-term needs and goals of the schools.
Foundation of the 15th encourages you to help your schools by simply shopping with merchants who have agreed to donate a portion of that day’s profits to the foundation.
According to Lindsay McGregor of LCFEF, the idea behind the monthly day of donation came from Charlie Kamar of , who for years has donated one cent from every gallon of gas sold on the 15th of each month. Thanks to community response and Kamar’s commitment, the penny per gallon program has raised over $1,000 per year of LCFEF.

Last summer, Kamar and Susan Stranger of and the newly formed La Cañada-Flintridge Merchant Connection worked together to expand the program to include a number of in town merchants and vendors.
Like Kamar, some businesses donate a flat amount per transaction, while others, like and the , fork over 10 to 15 percent of their daily sales. Businesses can also help the foundation’s good works just by honoring a flat donation per month, as Behr Construction does.

“Foundation of the 15th is tailored to each individual merchant,” Stranger told Patch through email, “We made it very easy to get merchants to participate – every little bit helps.” She noted that the foundation will be revving up its campaign to get more merchants involved as the school year starts.
