Coroner IDs Little Boy Tragically Killed Biking In Orange County

The 8-year-old collided with a garbage truck Wednesday in Newport Beach. A GoFundMe account is underway to assist the family.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA --- An 8-year-old boy who was fatally injured when his bicycle collided with a trash truck in Newport Beach was identified Friday morning by the Orange County coroner's office.

Brock McCann was struck at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, on 15th Street between Irvine and Fullerton avenues near Newport Heights Elementary School, according to police Lt. Jeff Brouwer.

It was not immediately known whether McCann was a student at the school. He died at the scene, Brouwer said.

Condolences for the family are filling a Facebook tribute page: In Loving Memory of Brock McCann.

"RIP, little angel, we will miss you," one individual wrote.

"Live on in our hearts forever sweet boy .. we will try to make our neighborhood safer in your memory!" wrote another.

"Brock was a precious 8-year-old boy who lost his life on Wednesday, May 25th. He was a beloved brother of Jack and son of Bernadette and Murphy. Brock loved monsters, penguins and football.

"This fund has been set up for Brock McCann's family in their time of need. As a community, please help to support them. The monies will be used to aide in funeral costs, dinners and day to day needs as this family works through this trying time."

To date, the fund has amassed more than $47,000 in donations, toward the $100,000 goal.
