Drink of the Week: Lemon Drop Martini at Mosun
The tart cocktail starts out weak, ends up strong.

The Lemon Drop Martini is one of those cocktails, like a Manhattan or a Sazerac, that can be a good test of a bartender's ability. The Lemon Drop Martini was our favorite for years, owing in part to our love for all things citrus and all things tart.
This week's drink was ordered at , the uber-hip and very red sushi bar and restaurant at 680 S. Coast Highway. It's $12, but if we had ordered it during happy hour, it would have been only $5.
The Lemon Drop Martini at Mosun is made with:

- Ketel One Citroen vodka
- Triple sec
- Sweet and sour mix
- Fresh lemon juice
- Sugar rim
We were disappointed by the first few sips of the Lemon Drop Martini, which seemed like it was mixed with ice that was melting a bit too much and watered the martini down a bit. But once the drink was half finished, it began to taste more like a Lemon Drop should: tart and a bit sweet. The lemon juice complemented the triple sec and vodka. However, we found that the sugar rim was a little too overpowering, especially in the beginning.
If we had to ask it be made over again, we would have requested less sugar or a finer grained sugar be added to the rim, and that more lemon juice be added to the mix to tip it into tart territory. But the last two sips were the best, packing the best citrusy flavor.
