LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach police department highlighted a young community member with a lot of heart this month.

Brooks Heard, a resident of Laguna, discovered a need as he searched for his Eagle Scout project.

Pets, as well as people, need to be included with emergency preparedness. The city of Laguna Beach has conducted a series of local outreach this year, with the sale of an emergency backpack, containing everything you could need during an emergency.
Brooks Heard reached out to the Laguna Beach Police Department with his idea to create an emergency preparedness kit for pets.

With the assistance of emergency coordinator Jordan Villwock and members of the CERT team, Brooks brainstormed a kit that would have things that a pet owner would need to have, quickly, during an emergency.

After developing the idea and creating kits, held in bags, he distributed the pet emergency preparedness kits at the farmer's market, with the help of the CERT volunteers.
