A new school year 082126 (stunewslaguna.com) — Laguna Beach students just kicked off a new LBUSD school year with warm welcomes from principals, first responders, and lifeguards at El Morro, Thurston, and Top of the World. Firefighters, police, and district leaders greeted kids, shared safety-focused "to do" lists, and helped set a friendly, community-centered tone for the months ahead.
   

2. Calif. first responders turn to peer-support dogs to help cope with trauma (firerescue1.com) — Laguna Beach Fire has added Oro, a specially trained peer-support dog, to help firefighters and lifeguards process traumatic calls like a recent child drowning off Treasure Island. The program, part of a growing statewide Critical Incident Stress K-9 effort, aims to reduce PTSD, anxiety, and suicide risk by making it easier for first responders to open up about what they see on the job.
   

3. Family Seeks Aid After Mom Suffers Heart Attack In Laguna Beach Waters (patch.com) — A 49-year-old mother suffered a heart attack while swimming at Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach and was rescued unconscious from the water alongside a teen girl. She survived thanks to lifeguards and first responders and is now under close monitoring at Mission Hospital, while her family seeks community support through an online fundraiser for medical expenses.
   

4. Laguna Beach boys water polo starts fast, holds off Beckman in OC showdown (ocregister.com) — Laguna Beach High's boys water polo team opened its season with a 16-12 road win over Beckman, powered by a fierce counterattack and two key penalty saves. Players and coaches say their conditioning and defensive pressure show they're serious about returning to the CIF Open Division playoffs.
