SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A slight landslide on the south Orange County coast has shut down regular train service in Orange County again, Metrolink officials reported.

The closure comes just a few weeks after transportation officials completed a project meant to address the crumbling cliffside the train tracks are built near.

Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley tweeted Thursday afternoon that the closure was due to the "hillside movement" reported behind Casa Romantica, a historical site in San Clemente.

According to transportation officials, the landslide shut down service running from the Inland Empire to Orange County, as well as Orange County to Oceanside.

The incident on the hillside is about two miles north of where the Orange County Transportation Authority is finishing up construction to shore up a hillslide slope near the Cyprus Shore Homeowners Association in San Clemente, officials said.

Service was suspended south of the Laguna Niguel-Mission Viejo station, Johnson said. Passengers will get Uber vouchers of up to $50 to get them the rest of their way to their destination.

In addition, Amtrak officials said Pacific Surfliner service is also being disrupted between Irvine and San Diego. Passengers were advised to call 800-USA-RAIL (872-7245) for assistance.

No injuries were reported and no further information was immediately available.
