Ocean Institute To Raffle Off Million-Dollar Home

The Ocean Institute in Dana Point is holding its seventh annual Laguna Beach Million Dollar Home Raffle.

Proceeds will go toward the institute, which helps educate more then 100,000 students every year about the ocean and California history, according to its website. Tickets cost $150, and sales are limited to 20,000 tickets.

The entry fee also includes one free membership to the Institute, valid until July 1 and good for free admission to the Ocean Institute and invitations to special events, according to the website. (Buying two or more raffle tickets translates to a free family membership.)

The raffle's grand prize is an ocean-view home in Laguna Beach or $1 million. 

Other prizes include a vacation to the Galápagos Islands, cars and shopping gift cards.

In previous raffles, only one winner has chosen the Laguna Beach home; the rest picked the $1 million, said raffle co-director Susan Goggin.

The final deadline to buy tickets is Oct. 19, and the drawing for the grand prize will take place at the Ocean Institute on Nov. 5.

There are incentives for entering early, buying multiple tickets and referrals.

“If you enter by Aug. 17, your ticket will be put into the early-bird drawing, and you will have the most chance at winning prizes,” said Goggin.

If a ticket purchaser refers a friend and that person mentions the original purchaser's name, both will be entered into a special Refer-A-Friend drawing, with prizes that include an Apple iPad, two nights at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, and up to $10,000 cash.

“Both names will go on the ticket, and both friends can win the same prize,” Goggin said. Entry deadline is Sept. 14.

People who buy multiple tickets are eligible to win a Toyota Prius, a vacation trip and various cash prizes. The multi-ticket raffle deadline is Aug. 17.
