Rare White Dolphin Spotted In Dana Point Waters This Weekend

The white dolphin, dubbed "Blanco," is believed to be the only known white dolphin swimming in and around SoCal waters.

DANA POINT, CA — Ocean travelers and marine enthusiasts were treated to a rare sight last weekend, after a rare all-white dolphin was spotted off the coast of Dana Point, Dana Wharf announced Wednesday.

The sighting took place during Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching's eight-hour Ultimate Whale Watch, where a large nursery pod of over 30 Risso's dolphins was spotted.

The pod included a well-known leucistic dolphin dubbed "Blanco," who has a distinct all-white color. Blanco was first spotted on July 13, 2020, according to Dana Wharf.

Blanco was then spotted the following year on May 15, 2021, the same day as Dana Wharf's 50th Anniversary.
