'Real World' Recap: Drunken Debauchery
The first season of 'The Real World: San Diego' lives up to its reputation.

The Real World is back and so is the drunken debauchery that comes with it!
Tonight’s episode was the first, which means everyone meets for the first time and first impressions are made–by castmates and viewers alike.
Let’s do a quick recap of each character.
Priscilla: The San Diego native and Miss El Cajon Teen’s first words are “I’m nervous! I’ve never, ever been away from home.” Someone ought to teach her geography because she’s not really “away” from home.
Nate: His excitement and giggles over the house and its belongings are a sure sign of what’s to come this season. He’s got big dreams, you know, like being the “alpha male” of the house (which, by the way, are totally shattered when Zach enters the picture).
Alexandra: Girl has looks and brains. She seems the most likable right off the bat, even if she is constantly shoving her perfection in our faces. Did anyone catch that clip of her singing? I wouldn’t mind hearing more.
Ashley: If I believed in stereotypes, I would say that she certainly fits into the San Diego one. Blonde, bubbly, tan, model. She’s pretty boring, though. Maybe she’ll stir up the pot later in the season.
Frank: He should probably lose the headband and the goofy/creepy grin he gets when he’s around Alex. He should also learn how to be less pathetic when it comes to winning the affections of a girl...or guy.
Sam: She’s certainly not shy about being “part of the guys.” She’s gotten more girl action than the guys thus far, so that’s saying something. Do you guys think that girl at the club knew it was a woman?
Zach: He’s hot, he’s tall. This guy seemingly hates everyone in the house and has a personality I like to describe as “milk toast.” He said he’s not going to hook up with anyone in the house. I laughed.
The night’s highlights:
Find out what's happening in La Jollafor free with the latest updates from Patch.
- Priscilla’s mom admitted to sleeping with someone in Priscilla’s bed. Priscilla then confided that she christened Grandma’s couch. Normal mother-daughter conversation.
- Zach is way bummed about sharing a room with Sam because they have “different lifestyle choices.”
- Frank goes both ways but is totally in love Alex, who’s had a boyfriend she calls her “soulmate” for about eight months. Sexual tension between the two will mount.
- The group wants to go out and party the first night, but initially decide to hold back since Priscilla can’t legally get in to anywhere in San Diego. *Note to MTV producers: Having someone on the show that is under 21 doesn’t add to the drama, it adds to everyone’s annoyance.
- Alex, Frank, Ashley, Sam and Zach go out for a beer run but take a detour to the provactively-named Thruster’s Lounge in Pacific Beach. While Priscilla whines to Nate about them ditching her, he goes in for the kill and makes out with her for two awkward minutes. She escapes his lips and asks for a “break.”
- Somewhere in the mix, a group shower headed by Sam takes place. Nudity in the first half hour is a good sign of what’s to come.
- Priscilla is deemed the DD and the group goes out the second night to Beachwood in Pacific Beach. Some unwanted (read: drunk) girls consume some of the group’s alcohol, which infuriates Frank. When he confronts the said girls, he gets called an offensive profanity.
- The show ends with Frank, who has gained some serious liquid courage, asking Alex why she doesn’t like him more than a friend. Alex answered with the typical “I have a boyfriend.” A wall is hit, but not injured.
In a nutshell: Nakedness, hook ups, drinking, wall hitting and misunderstandings.
Tune in next week for an episode recap.
