Man Walks From Oregon to SeaWorld

The 1,360-plus mile trek to San Diego to promote obesity awareness was the longest journey yet on his weight-loss journey.

SAN DIEGO, CA — He had a goal of walking from Seaside, Oregon to SeaWorld San Diego in 40 days, and he did it. Dale Rule arrived at SeaWorld on Monday, right on schedule.

The Camas, Washington resident who is a football coach, husband, father and founder of the nonprofit, Everyone Walk, made the trip on foot to promote obesity awareness.

Rule walked about 12 hours a day, resting at night in an RV his family members drove along the way. He chronicled his journey on Facebook.

In a Facebook Live video as he reached SeaWorld, he said: "To the few who said I couldn’t do it, I love you. Thanks for the motivation ... If I could walk 1360-plus miles in 40 days, and put my body and my mind and my family through what I did, you can do anything, you can do anything you set your mind to."

According to his website, Everyonewalk.com, Rule struggled with a weight problem for 20 years, and in December 2009, he weighed more than 360 pounds. In February 2010, following another News Year’s resolution to lose weight, he said he began losing motivation. But he started walking every day, and by August of that year, he'd shed 103 pounds and was walking at least seven miles a day.
