Councilwoman Sherri Lightner declared it University City Little League Day in San Diego on Saturday during an opening ceremony of the the league's 50th season at Standley Park.

Players participated in a parade of teams before starting their season.

Mike Saipe, a University City High School graduate and former Colorado Rockies pitcher, threw out the first pitch.
