16 Arrested/Cited At Area DUI Checkpoint

The operation was held Friday night to Saturday morning in Menifee.

MENIFEE, CA — A DUI/driver license checkpoint held Friday in Menifee by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department ended in one arrest for suspected impaired driving, 16 drivers being arrested or cited for for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 22 traffic citations issued and five vehicles towed, authorities said.

The operation ran Friday from 8 pm. to Saturday at 2 a.m. on Antelope Road south of La Piedra Road, with 534 vehicles screened and, of those, 40 directed to secondary screenings, the department said.

The DUI checkpoint sites are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, deputies said.

"Last year, deputies from the Menifee Station investigated 54 DUI collisions that killed three people and injured 54 others," officials said.

Deputies from the Menifee station plan future DUI/driver license checkpoints and/or DUI saturation patrols in an "ongoing commitment to take suspected impaired drivers off our streets and highways, ultimately lowering the risk for deaths and injuries."
