LAKE ELSINORE, CA — DUI patrols are planned this week in Lake Elsinore, and motorists caught driving impaired and subsequently convicted will face about $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, authorities announced Monday.
The added deputy patrols are scheduled Thursday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Ahead of the patrols, the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station is reminding the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol.

"Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving," according to the station. "Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal."
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the sheriff's department.
