Dozens of little Picassos let their collective artistic genius flow during the Easter Egg Coloring event this week in Wildomar.

Sponsored by the library, the two-hour event on Thursday let children decorate and take home ceramic eggs for Easter.

Paint, Elmer’s Glue, faux Easter grass and other art supplies were provided by the library at no charge to families.

Wildomar resident Delia Leon brought her two young daughters to the library to color eggs. Both girls, Jocelyn, 6, and Galilea, 4, giggled and gabbed as they eagerly showed off their Easter creations.

“I’m going to put this little bird in the egg,” Jocelyn said, as she gently placed a mini red puff-ball with glue-on eyes into her colorful masterpiece. “It will be safe here.

“When I get home, I’m going to put seeds in this egg, so the birds can eat out of it,” she explained further.

It’s this type of safe, nurturing environment that Delia values.

“They (the library) do so much for the community,” she said. “The kids really appreciate their time here. They always ask, ‘Mom, what’s going on at the library?’”

Delia said she didn’t grow up with a sense of what a public library brings to a community.

“My parents were always working. They didn’t have time,” she said. “I want my kids to love the library. It’s really important for me to be here with them.”

The Leon sisters like to read, and enjoy coming to the library to check out the new books too, Delia said.

“The staff gets into conversations with the kids about books and projects. They know their names and are really communicative with the kids,” Delia said, noting that she is also grateful that the library offers so much at no cost, such as monthly movie screenings.

Upcoming free screenings include “Tron” on May 9 and “Yogi Bear” on May 27.

“Many families in the community can’t pay to take their kids to the movies,” Delia said. “And the staff even brings treats for the kids.”

Wildomar resident Crystal Sanner brings her two children, Carlee, 8, and Wren, 2, to the library at least twice a month.

“We come to the library a lot,” Crystal said.

While Carlee carefully colored an egg purple and a painted-smudged Wren searched for goodies in a basket of treats, Crystal said, “We love all the things Wildomar has to offer.”
