Elsinore Man Allegedly Pulls Knife on Deputies During Arrest

Richard Belville was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer & violating a restraining order.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A 62-year-old Lake Elsinore man was arrested Friday for allegedly pulling a knife on deputies when they attempted to take him into custody for ignoring a restraining order.

Richard Belville was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and violating a domestic violence restraining order. He's being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

According to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Glenn Warrington, deputies went to Belville's residence about 9 a.m. in the 300 block of Main Street, near Summer Avenue, to take the suspect into custody after an investigation revealed that on Thursday, he'd allegedly contacted a person who had sought and received court protection from him.

When deputies went to the suspect's front door, Washington said he tried to slam it shut, then "reached for a large hunting knife and moved towards the (deputies) in a threatening manner."

One of the deputies deployed a Taser, causing Belville to fall to the ground and drop the knife, according to the sergeant.

The suspect was arrested without further incident and taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar to be medically cleared for booking, after which he was transported to the Byrd Detention Center.

No deputies were injured.

Belville has no documented prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County.
