Hazardous Road Conditions Prompt School Closures Throughout Riverside County

With some roads impassable and driving conditions otherwise poor in many locations, several school districts in Riverside County today shuttered all campuses, while other districts closed a few schools until the weather improves.

According to the county Emergency Management Department, rainfall since Friday has flooded a number of roadways and snow has impacted corridors at higher elevations.

The travel hazards were not expected to be mitigated until the final storm system clears to the east tonight.

The Nuview Union, Perris Union and Val Verde school districts closed all campuses, canceling classes at the following locations as of this morning:

-- California Military Institute, 755 North A St., Perris;
-- Columbia Elementary School, 21350 Rider St.;
-- Citrus Hill High School, 18150 Wood Road, Perris;
-- Heritage High School, 26001 Briggs Road, Menifee;
-- Lakeside Middle School, 27720 Walnut Ave., Perris;
-- Lasselle Elementary School, 26446 Krameria Ave., Moreno Valley;
-- Manuel L. Real Elementary School, 19150 Clark St.;
-- March Middle School, 15800 Indian Ave., Moreno Valley;
-- Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School, 25390 Krameria St., Moreno Valley;
-- May Ranch Elementary School, 900 East Morgan St., Perris;
-- Mead Valley Elementary School, 21-100 Oleander Ave., Perris;
-- Mountain Shadows Middle School, 30401 Reservoir Ave., Nuevo;
-- Nuview Bridge Early College High School, 30401 Reservoir Ave., Nuevo;
-- Nuview Elementary School, 29680 Lakeview Ave., Nuevo;

-- Tomas Rivera Middle School, 972 W. Morgan St., Perris;
-- Sierra Vista Elementary School, 20300 Sherman Road, Perris;
-- Student Success Academy, 972 W. Morgan St., Perris;
-- Val Verde Academy, 25100 Red Maple Lane, Moreno Valley;
-- Val Verde Elementary School, 2656 Indian Ave., Perris;
-- Val Verde High School, 972 West Morgan St., Perris;
-- Valley View Elementary School, 21220 Maurice St., Nuevo;
-- Vista Verde Middle School, 25777 Krameria St., Moreno Valley; and
-- Victoriano Elementary School, 25650 Los Cabos Drive, Moreno Valley.

The Hemet Unified and Menifee Union school districts were in operation Monday, but officials in both districts deemed it necessary to close the following campuses due to limited access to surrounding roads:

-- Cottonwood K-8 School, 44260 Sage Road, Aguanga;
-- Hamilton K-8 School, 57550 Mitchell Road, Anza;
-- Hamilton High School, 57430 Mitchell Road, Anza;
-- Idyllwild K-8 School, 26700 Highway 243;
-- Menifee Valley Middle School, 26255 Garbani Road; and
-- Quail Valley Elementary School, 23757 Canyon Heights Drive, Menifee.
