Also this weekend, two hikers were airlifted to safety after they became stranded in a remote area of the Santa Rosa Plateau in La Cresta, authorities said Sunday.

The rescue was reported at 5:43 p.m. Sunday in an area where Riverside County meets Orange and San Diego counties, said Tawny Castro of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters were unable to hike to the area, so an Orange County Fire Authority helicopter conducted a hoist rescue, Castro said.

The hikers declined medical treatment after they were evaluated by paramedics, she said.

And on Sunday, three homes were flooded in the community of Good Hope near Perris due to heavy rain, authorities said.

The flooding was reported at 6:26 p.m. Sunday in the 24000 block of Marie Street, said Castro of the Riverside County Fire Department.

"The first arriving engine company reported major flooding affecting three residences,'' Castro said.

The active water flow into the residences was stopped at 7:15 p.m., she said. Firefighters used 450 sandbags to keep more water from coming into the residences. Two adults were displaced by the flooding, Castro said. Southern California Edison responded to repair damage from a tree that was touching power lines.
