Investigation Continues Into Head-On Crash In Lake Elsinore

Three individuals were hurt, one seriously in the Wednesday wreck on Collier Avenue.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — An investigation was continuing Thursday into a head-on injury crash in Lake Elsinore that injured three people, one of them critically.

Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a GMC Terrain heading south on Collier Avenue near Chaney Street crossed into opposing traffic for unknown reasons and struck a Ford Fusion heading northbound, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Jimenez said.

The occupants of both vehicles were taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.

The driver of the sedan had to be cut free from the wreckage and suffered major injuries, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The other driver and a juvenile passenger were also hospitalized with injuries described as minor.

Deputies were still investigating the crash, but alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor, Jimenez said.

Both lanes of Collier Avenue were shut down for several hours during the initial investigation.
