Lake Elsinore Senior Graduates in Top of Online High School

Valedictorian at California Virtual Academy@ San Diego shares his family story with fellow graduates in community ceremony.

On June 9, Dylan Stolte from Lake Elsinore graduated as a valedictorian for California Virtual Academy@ San Diego, a full-time, online charter school for students in grades K-12.

Dylan plans to attend Ithaca College in fall 2016, where he was awarded the $20,000 President’s Scholarship. But first, he’ll spend the next year helping his older brother with special needs get accustomed to not having Dylan around at home anymore.

Dylan spent all of high school at California Virtual Academy@ San Diego. Studying from home allowed Dylan to help his single mom with caring for his brother, and be another supportive adult figure in his brother’s life. In addition, as an advanced learner, the pace and workload of a traditional classroom environment wasn’t challenging enough for Dylan. At California Virtual Academy@ San Diego, he had more options for classes such as AP Psychology and Anthropology, and could take on a heavier workload.

Dylan delivered his first speech ever to nearly 100 of his classmates at an in-person ceremony in San Bernardino on June 9.

Other graduates will be attending universities and colleges across the country and state including Grand Canyon University, Brigham Young University-Idaho, San Francisco State University, Culinary Arts Institute, University of California, San Diego, Grossmont College, University of Utah, California State University, Long Beach, Oklahoma State University, Ohio State University, and George Washington University. Congratulations to all of this year’s graduates!

At California Virtual Academy@ San Diego, California-credentialed teachers work with each student through an interactive digital learning platform to create an individualized plan, focused on his or her unique learning needs, goals, and interests.

California Virtual Academy@ San Diego, hosts free community events and online information sessions throughout the year, and families can find more information on upcoming events by visiting http://cava.k12.com.
