Man Dies in Fiery Winchester Crash

Police said the 2010 Dodge pickup truck "was launched approximately 193 feet into the air" after hitting some rocks, and burst into flames.

A man was killed in a fiery crash near Winchester that also triggered a small brush fire, authorities said Monday.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday on Leon Road, just south of Ano Crest Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorist, whose identity was still unconfirmed Monday morning, was driving south on Leon at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, plowing straight into a pair of boulders, said CHP Officer Mike Lassig.
