Man ID'd Who Died After Crashing Into Car Carrier On I-15

Officials say that the Lake Elsinore crash happened as a Honda slammed into the back of a semi-truck, getting wedged underneath.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A man who died after crashing into a car carrier in Lake Elisnore on Wednesday has been publicly identified. He was 40-year-old Franky Tambingon of Loma Linda, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

According to the CHP, Tambingon was headed south on Interstate 15 at 9:53 a.m. Wednesday when the wreck occurred near Central Avenue. He veered to the right and onto the "gore point" toward the offramp, where a vehicle carrier truck was stopped.

"The front end of the Honda subsequently collided with the rear end of the car carrier trailer," CHP Officer Dan Olivas said in a news release.

Fire officials reported that the Honda became wedged underneath the semi-truck.

"The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene," Olivas said.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to call the Riverside California Highway Patrol Accident Investigation Unit at (951) 637-8000.
