Police Corner Elsinore Suspect In Local Business Following Chase

Sheriff's officials say the man was spotted Tuesday afternoon and ran from authorities.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Riverside County sheriff's officials on Tuesday arrested a man who was wanted on a felony warrant after he ran into a Lake Elsinore business, prompting a large police scene in town. The man, identified as 37-year-old Brian Chaffino of Moreno Valley, is now jailed in French Valley.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Chat Thompson, Lake Elsinore police first tried to apprehend Chaffino around 12:41 p.m. Tuesday in the 28000 block of Haygood Way when they found out he'd violated a temporary domestic violence restraining order.

"While responding to the Haygood Way location, responding officers witnessed the suspect inside of the shopping center at Dexter Avenue [and] Central Avenue," Thompson said in a news release. "Officers recognized the suspect and determined he was wanted for a felony warrant."

The officers tried to stop Chaffino, but he ran into a nearby commercial business, Thompson said. Police set up a perimeter around the business and subsequently arrested the man.

Chaffino was arrested and taken to the Cois Byrd Detention Center for an outstanding felony warrant and delaying officers, according to Thompson. Jail booking details were not immediately available.
