Riverside Deputies Fatally Shoot Man In Lake Elsinore

The man was wielding a weapon and refused to drop it when deputies arrived, according to police.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A man who was allegedly wielding a weapon in a residential neighborhood was shot and killed by a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy in Lake Elsinore, and the sheriff's department was investigating the shooting Sunday.

The shooting occurred around 5:20 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of Ash Street, according to Riverside County sheriff's officials.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw an armed man outside a home and reportedly ordered him to drop the weapon, according to Deputy Robyn Flores. Sheriff's officials said a "physical altercation" then occurred between the suspect and a deputy, which ended in the shooting.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Flores. His name was not released pending notification of his family.

Authorities did not disclose the name of the deputy involved in the shooting, who was placed on administrative leave.
