Water Skiing Behind A Blimp Record Attempt Closes Lake Elsinore
Will a new world record be set in Lake Elsinore? Plus, what company is behind the attempt.
LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Lake Elsinore is closed to the public today, and for a very unique reason. Someone is attempting to break the world record for "water skiing behind a blimp," city officials say.
The attempt is being done to create a new leader for the Guinness Book of World Records. The city says there's no set time for the record attempt, so the lake is slated to be closed the entire day.
The entire event is sponsored by T-Mobile, who is trying to go for around 5.6 miles, city officials tell Patch. It's apparently part of a promotion for a new Samsung phone.

We're working to confirm the current record information, but back in 2000 the CEO of Monser.com water skied 3.3 miles behind his company's blimp, according to businesswire.com. At that time, he broke the record set by Virgin CEO Richard Branson — who had water-skied behind a blimp while filming for 'Baywatch.'
Patch reached out to Guinness officials for more information about this unique record attempt and we'll let you know when we learn more.
