Whole Lotta Love For Mother's Day

The event at Mission Trail Community Library in Wildomar let kids make little treasures for their proud moms.

In honor of Mother’s Day, 10-year-old Victoria is deep in concentration -- cutting, pasting and coloring a bright Mother’s Day card she is creating. She says she will present it when she serves her mom breakfast in bed on the big day.

“Maybe lunch in bed too…” she added, grinning.

Victoria is joined by about 15 other kids at Wildomar's on Saturday.

Kasey Sabetzadeh and Sue Hogan are in charge of the craft events the library puts on about once a month. The popular events are funded by a grant the library received from Target.

Saturday’s crafts are bookmarks and pull-out cards with a sweet poem inside. The desks are covered in crayons, glitter pens, colored paper and cotton balls. Happy kids sit side-by-side constructing little treasures for their proud moms.

Some mothers help their small children with their cards. While other mothers, like Nancy Nakasone, simply make one for themselves while their busy children scribble their own versions. Everyone is having fun.

A small red-headed boy named Christian, 3, came with his three brothers and sisters, ages 11 to a mere two weeks. He scribbles a careful “MOM” with a blue crayon on an envelope, pastes on some cotton balls, and tucks his card inside.

The once-a-month events are all family oriented and encourage creativity. The events take Sabetzadeh and Hogan about 30 minutes to set up, and another 30 for clean up.

“Unless we’re dealing with paint,” Sabetzadeh laughed. “I’m still finding paint in odd places from last time.”

Local high school kids, mostly from Elsinore High School, volunteer at the library and help out with the events.

“We are doing the finishing touches to the summer program right now. We have an animal show, a magic show, a snake lady, and all kinds of other things going on,” Sabetzadeh said.

The next craft day will be on Friday, June 17 for Father’s Day. A registration sheet will be available at the front desk of the library.
