Wildomar Residents Fight to Keep Rural Atmosphere and Open Spaces

Do you want elected officials to do away with all remaining rural zoning designations? Warriors of Wildomar are fighting zoning changes.

Warriors of Wildomar

A group of citizens has banded together to oppose a development project in the City of Wildomar. This particular development is called Camelia Communities Project #37156.

If you are a resident of Wildomar and wish to keep the rural atmosphere, open spaces and choices in what is built in our city please consider joining this group.

Currently Wildomar is being asked to make a zoning change from RR (rural residential) to R-3 (Medium-High Density Residential) on a parcel of property on Wildomar’s southern border with Murrieta on Palomar Street. With the approval of this zoning change it will give the go ahead for this developer and owner to extend 4 lane Jefferson Avenue to 2 lane Palomar Street as part of the development.. No repairs or widening of Palomar Street are included in these development plans.

If you are not familiar with this area you might want to take a drive down Palomar Street towards Murrieta, and after you cross Clinton Keith going south Palomar Street becomes a windy rural road. Along the windy road look to the left and you will see gentle rolling hills which is where this developer wants to build 30 two story buildings with parking for 400+ residents. This is not a planned community with yards or patio’s, it is more like apartment buildings with a small community barbeque, play area and green space for all to use. As one of Wildomar’s Planning Commissioners put it, this would not be a forever home just temporary housing as there is nothing that would give it an at home feeling. The developer has even added frosted windows to the second story of the buildings because this development will look into the back yards of the Murrieta neighbors at Grizzly Ridge.

Per the City of Wildomar Impact Fee Study Update Report of April 23, 2015, calculating using their statistics this one development will generate 1560 daily trips onto Palomar Street or Jefferson Avenue. Our suggestion that this development be built close to freeway 15 access went unheard by three of the Planning Commissioners.

Wildomar does need development for the revenue to run our city; this is not a movement to stop development but a movement to have smart development.

The next City Council Meeting for Wildomar will be held on July 12, 2017, City Hall Building at 23873 Clinton Keith Road, Wildomar, CA 92595 at 6:30 pm. The meeting room is on the north side of the City Hall Building in the Albertson’s shopping center, east side of the 15 Freeway off of Clinton Keith Road. Please note to check the City of Wildomar Website as the meeting date could change if this goes to a “special agenda meeting” due to the anticipation of a large crowd of residents in opposition.

At the last special agenda Wildomar Planning Commission Meeting we had over 140 residential participants. We would like to see 400+ participants at the City Council Agenda Meeting for The Camelia Communities Project in July.
