5 Injured in Freeway Flyover Crash
Firefighters used the jaws of life to rescue a badly injured husband and wife in a crash on the 5 to 405 carpool flyover.
Five people were hospitalized, including a husband and wife who suffered traumatic injuries, in a horrific crash on the I-5 to I-405 carpool flyover.
The accident, which occurred Sunday night, closed one carpool lane for hours.
Two pickup trucks collided just after 7:30 p.m., pinning one of the drivers in the cab. About 20 firefighters worked to free him and treat the five injured people.

“With the jaws of life, we had to remove the windshield and the whole roof of truck,” said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi. “It took about 30 minutes to get the driver out. He was pinned in the driver’s seat.”
The husband and wife were transported to Mission hospital with neck, back and hip injuries, and they remain in moderate condition, Concialdi said. The other truck, which carried a family of five, included three people ranging in age from 5 to over 70 who had to be hospitalized for minor injuries.
