91-Freeway Drive By Shooter Sentenced Friday, DA Says

A Scottsdale resident was sentenced to state prison Friday for shooting at another car on the 91-Freeway.

FULLERTON, CA — A 35-year-old Scottsdale resident, Jerry Valentin, was sentenced Friday for felony assault with a deadly weapon on the 91 Freeway, near the Interstate 5 interchange, the Orange County District Attorney's Office reported. Valentin will spend 5 years in state prison according to Susan Kang Schroeder, Chief of Staff of the OCDA.

The drive by shooting incident dates back to August 4, 2014. Valentin was driving eastbound on the 91-freeway near the 5-Freeway interchange.

At approximately 4:20 p.m., Valentin swerved his vehicle toward an SUV driven by an unnamed driver.

Valentin drove alongside the SUV and fired shotgun rounds, to fire at least one round at the driver's side of the victim's SUV, Kang Schroeder said.

"The victim was hit in the arm and torso, as a result of the pellets fired from the shotgun round," she said. "The victim called 911 and continued to follow Valentin's vehicle."

By 4:45 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers stopped a vehicle that matched the description supplied of Valentin's car near the eastbound 91 and 241 interchange.

"The Fullerton Police Department arrested Valentin and investigated the case," Kang Schroeder said.
