Batteries For Birds: It's A Great Time To Help Your Neighbors

Starting on November 15th, The Jewelry Box of Lake Forest is donating all revenues from its watch battery replacement service to South County Outreach. The money will be used to buy turkeys for the holiday food baskets South County Outreach distributes to families in need.

“Last year, we raised $2,100,” Jack Levenson, co-owner of The Jewelry Box of Lake Forest said. “That was enough to purchase several hundred birds. This year, we’d love to double that number, and we think we can, if everyone spreads the word.” In many ways, he added, having your watch battery replaced is similar to the best practices for home smoke detectors. “Installing a fresh new battery annually ensures that the watch you’re counting on never lets you down!”

In addition to having the battery in the watch you wear regularly changed, the Batteries for Birds campaign is a great time to round up those watches that have been lingering unworn in the sock drawer, patiently waiting for battery replacement. “What fun is it to have these beautiful watches and never wear them?” asks co-owner Christine Anzell. “A simple battery replacement can give you back the joy – and you get the extra bonus of helping other people out during the holidays. What could be better than that?”

“Lake Forest is a really remarkable community,” Anzell added. “When people here know they’ve got an opportunity to make someone else’s life better, they really step up.” South County Outreach is the area’s largest emergency assistance program. Last year, they distributed almost a million pounds of food.

Participating in the Batteries for Birds campaign is very simple. All you have to do is bring your watches to The Jewelry Box of Lake Forest, located at 21771 Lake Forest Drive, and have the batteries replaced. Watch battery replacement is available for fine and every day watches. All of the money collected for watch battery replacement will be donated to South County Outreach. “We’re running the Batteries for Birds campaign from November 15th to December 15th,” Levenson said. “Everybody needs their watch battery replaced at some point. Why not do a good deed at the same time?”
