City Salutes Sheriff's Team of Active Retired Seniors
30 volunteers provide more than 7000 hours in 2016
Thursday night Lake Forest’s STARS (Sheriff's Team of Active Retired Seniors) program celebrated the accomplishments of this small band of dedicated seniors. Year to date they have supplied the City with 7,037 hours of service, an increase over 2015 when it was 6,800. 7037 hours is the equivalent of more than $320,000 in staffing time which is freed up.
STARS is a senior citizen volunteer program through the City of Lake Forest. It was founded in 1997 to assist the City and Lake Forest Police Services. Some of the duties performed by the STARS are:
- Assist Both Code Enforcement and Public Works.
- Assist in Neighborhood Watch Programs.
- Business Checks.
- City Park Watch.
- Clerical Support.
- Radar Display Board Trailer.
- Seniors Offering Support.
- Special Events.
- Vacation Home Checks.
- Van Patrol.
