Crowds Swarm Chino Hills Store That Sold Winning Powerball Ticket

Pandemonium ensued as hundreds converged on the store that will get a hefty cut for selling the ticket.

As news of the winning Powerball retailers spread like wildfire across the state, hundreds of people converged Wednesday night on the now famous Chino Hills convenience store responsible for selling the coveted $1.6 billion jackpot winning ticket— the sole winning ticket in California that went along with winning jackpots in Florida and Tennessee.

The ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven store, located at 4092 Chino Hills Parkway. The city of Chino Hills is located in San Bernardino County, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. That store will get $1 million for selling the ticket.

Aerial footage from local news stations showed the anxious people trying to get inside the store, for a piece of all the excitement. Inside, the store clerk, who told news crews he believes he’s the one who sold the winning ticket, was taking selfies with excited fans.

Patrons were seen chanting “Chino Hills, Chino Hills, Chino Hills!.”

Another 12 tickets sold in the Golden State matched five of the numbers, but not the Powerball, according to state lottery officials.

Those tickets were sold in the following cities:

  • Nipton
  • Chula Vista
  • Santa Rosa
  • Santa Cruz
  • Santa Monica
  • Tustin
  • Pacoima
  • Vacaville
  • Cloverdale
  • Redlands
  • Gardena
  • Irwindale

There’s no word yet on who the lucky ticket holder is, or if there are any winners in other states. Patch will update this breaking news story as more information becomes available.
