Diary of a Charger: Amid Puffy Paint and Glitter, Season Begins With Sudden Death Victory

El Toro High lacrosse player Bella Knoth shares her journal entry for the week ending March 9.

Hey everyone!

A lot is going on this week, but as always, I will start with lacrosse. This weekend, my entire team came over to decorate “game-day” T-shirts. By the end of the day, my house was covered in glitter and puffy paint, but everyone at El Toro will know when we have a game!

Game season started this week, and our first game was Tuesday against Mater Dei. For the first game of the season, we played well and I'm proud of our girls. After two overtimes and two sudden deaths, our Chargers were finally able to beat the Monarchs, 10-9. The only change I would like to see is running more plays; they work perfectly in practice scrimmages, but during games we seem to forget what we’ve gone over. Our next game is on Thursday, a home game against Los Al. They are known as one of the better girls’ lacrosse teams in our area, so we will see how that goes.

At school, its CAHSEE week. The teenager translation: wake up early, get to school at 7:45 a.m., sit in a testing room for three hours, only go to three regular classes under a crazy schedule, and go home tired. The CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) is mandatory if you want to graduate with a diploma, which MOST people aim for. Tuesday was the English Language Arts test, which was mostly reading comprehension and an essay. The multiple choice was pretty easy, but essays are not my strong point. Tomorrow is the math test, and although we all know it’s my worst subject, I've heard this test is the most basic algebra and I hope to pass it with no problem.

It’s going to be a crazy week; I hope I can survive!
