Diary of a Charger: Hoping to Provide Belly Laughs at the Banquet

El Toro High School sophomore water polo player Emily Browning shares her journal for the week ending May 11.

Hello again!

Nothing out of the ordinary happened this week. This past week went by like any other regular week. The weekend went by very quickly. I did not do much other than hang out with friends and make a video. The video is for my water polo banquet next week. The video has photos of us playing and game clips. I always enjoy making and editing videos, but that took a long time to make! I am looking forward to having it play at our banquet and I am hoping to get some laughs out of people with some of the photos.

On Monday I had my first dodgeball game at school and won. Luckily, I did not get hit, but all I did was stand in the corner hoping all of our strong guys would get everyone out on the other team! In classes that day, most of our teachers were preparing most of the sophomores for the CAHSEE, which was on both Tuesday and Wednesday. But in my health class we spent the whole period writing letters. We were writing letters for ourselves in the next 10 years. I had fun writing and talking about my life right now. I talked about my friends, family, school, and water polo. I also wrote what my favorite type of music is right now, favorite movies, and artist. Our teacher told us to add on some goals that we would have wanted to complete by then and to write what we will guess we will be doing 10 years from now. That part made me think a lot. What would I be doing 10 years from now? As of now I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up, nor do I know what college I would like to go. I always go back and forth on wanting to be a marine biologist, but for now I will just keep open-minded. I have two more years to make a decision about college and those two years are coming up quickly. I want to go to college for water polo and if I am going to want to be a marine biologist or decide to do something else, I am going to need to go to a school with certain majors. As of now I have some schools in mind based on water polo.

The next two days we had the CAHSEE, which is a test students have to take to be able to graduate high school. I found the Math part the easiest, and English-Language Arts had some difficult parts, but I thought I did good on it. The teachers had many rules while taking the test so no one would be able to cheat. Some rules were having to put all bags and backpacks against the wall, only having a pencil and ID card on your desk, not being able to get out of your desk until the three-hour period was over, and once you finished with the test, you were told take a nap at your desk. I can understand why they were being so strict during the test, but I think they took it a little too hard.

Club water polo has been getting of to a great start. We have a lot of returning 16Us girls and many new talented players. Our first games are coming up in a week and I think we will do good.

Thank you for reading!

Emily
