Dwight Robinson as Mayor

Dubious conduct by a current Council Member raises more questions about a future mayorship

Over the past few days, I have been chronicling previous Mayorships of our current City Council. I’ve covered Scott Voigts, who has lovingly been referred to as “the worst mayor ever” by former Council member Peter Herzog. I’ve also discussed Andrew Hamilton, who after only one meeting, managed to exhibit the same mayorship qualities that Mr. Voigts has been known for.

My next analysis is of Dwight Robinson. There is a possibility that the “Gang of 3” will select Mr. Robinson as Lake Forest’s next mayor, primarily because he is up for re-election at the end of next year, and he may want that title so he can place it on his campaign flyers that will most likely be paid for by developers.

Here’s a brief rundown of Mr. Robinson’s accomplishments as Mayor in 2014:

• According to testimony at a City Council meeting, which Robinson did not deny, he used his title of “Mayor”, and he threatened a business owner with “losing business” if he continued to display the banner of people Robinson hadn’t endorsed for Council.
• According to testimony at a City Council meeting, which Robinson did not deny, he used his title of “Mayor”, and he verbally assaulted a Grandmother and her grandchildren, threatening them with legal action.
• According to testimony at a City Council meeting, which Robinson did not deny, he removed brochures of a candidate he didn’t endorse from car windshields.
• He called for the resignation of a fellow Councilman on the basis of him being identified as a person of interest, even though he wasn’t charged (and eventually the charges were dropped).
• The list of items being postponed or otherwise not handled grew to nearly two dozen. Most notably, he put off dealing with Village Pond Park, and that poor park is still being neglected. He also put off establishing new procedures to evaluate businesses that want to sell alcohol, something Robinson always votes in favor of even though we know alcoholism can cause many social and health problems, and even though many parts of the City have 3 times as many stores selling alcohol as they are supposed to.

In 2015 when not Mayor, he verbally attacked fellow Council members from the dais as well as in social media, calling them “imbecile”, “moron”, “liar”, “vengeance seeker” and “panderer”.

From my analysis of Dwight Robinson, Scott Voigts and Andrew Hamilton, it appears that these three really have no modicum of understanding on how to treat residents or the beautiful city in which we live. We are being overcrowded by massive housing developments that will add 20,000+ residents to our community in a very short time, with no new schools, roads or fire stations. And yet, when residents speak out against such things, they are treated rudely, their concerns dismissed. I worry for our city under this type of leadership. It is my sincere hope that we will have either Jim Gardner or Adam Nick as our next Mayor, because their voting record proves that they care about the future of our city. I’ll have more to say about the final two Council members in my next post.
