Fiery Crash Triggers Morning SigAlert

Some lanes on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway were closed for a time this morning where the 405 meets the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Irvine after two cars collided and one overturned, authorities said.

The collision was reported on the southbound San Diego Freeway at the Bake Parkway offramp at about 4 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told the CHP one car caught fire but it appeared all of the occupants got out of the cars.

There was no indication of the extent of injuries. The CHP first issued a SigAlert at 4:38 a.m. for all lanes except the carpool lane. At 5 a.m. the two right lanes were reopened and the carpool lane was closed while the wreckage was cleared.
