Lake Forest, CA – To celebrate National Orthodontic Health Month, this October, Lake Forest orthodontist, John T. Eli, DMD, MSD, Eli Orthodontics invites patients, their families, and local communties to trade-in Halloween candy, that can play tricks on orthodontic treatment, for the treat of helping others. Because Halloween treats can damage orthodontic patient’s braces or other appliances, and contribute to tooth decay, Dr. Eli wants to help patients avoid injury to their braces, aligners and teeth by buying back Halloween candy.
Dr. Eli is paying each participant 12 years and under $1 for every pound ($10 max per family, no group collections, individual donations only, trick or treat candy only, no purchased candy please) of Halloweeen treats surrendered. Collected candy will be used to benefit the Orange County Food Bank just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. This festive Halloween Candy Buy-Back event is open to patients and their family and community members and Dr. Eli will accept new, wrapped Halloween candy (please no purchased candy). Dontated candy will be weighed in from 2:00 – 5:00pm on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Eli Orthodontic’s office located at 21791 Lake Forest, Dr. #204 in Lake Forest.
Patients and parents love our annual Halloween candy buy-back program. Parents appreciate their kids giving up their Halloween candy to help others, and it gives us the chance to educate our patients and help them prevent damage to their braces or aligners, which could affect their orthodontic treatment. Plus it is a fantastic way to bring our community together for a great cause, helping the Orange County Food Bank.
Over the years, Eli Orthodontics has noticed that the days immediately following Halloween are usually an orthodontist’s busiest time of year for emergency calls. The hope is that this candy buy-back program will cut down on orthodontic emergencies, yet allow patients, especially those wearing braces or aligners, to have some Halloween fun. It’s important to add that not all candy is forbidden during orthodontic treatment. Plain chocolate or soft, chocolate-covered peanut butter cups are permissible as long as patients remember to brush and floss thouroughly after indulging in sweet treats. Eli Orthodontics recommends that patients who are in orthodontic treatment avoid these foods or candies: Caramel, Taffy, Bubblegum, Peanuts, Taco Chips, and unpopped kernels of corn.
