My name is Leah Basile. I am part of the group that started a recall movement to remove Dwight Robinson, Scott Voigts and Andrew Hamilton from office. The recall started because these three refused to hear the valid safety concerns of 6,000 residents in Portola Hills. Month after month I attended City Council meetings, asking them to correct the dangerous design of Saddleback Ranch Road. After a couple of months of pleading with the Council, I realized that these three were forming a voting bloc – and their answer was a resounding - “NO, we will not help fix Saddleback Ranch Rd.” After presenting a petition with 1,000 signatures on it, Robinson, Voigts and Hamilton still voted no on fixing the road. I realized at that moment that they really did not care about our welfare as residents, and the only way we were going to save lives and fix our road was through a recall. Sure enough! The night Robinson, Voigts and Hamilton received their recall notices, they finally found the concerns of Portola Hills residents important.
THIS IS NOT GOOD GOVERNANCE!
About the People Who Started The Recall
We’re moms and dads, animal lovers, senior citizens. We are not politicians, and our concern for our city crosses party lines. This isn’t about being a Republican or Democrat; in fact we have every political affiliation working together to stop the damage to our quality of life. We simply couldn’t sit back anymore and watch how poorly our City Council is run. These three Councilmen yell at residents during meetings, they cut them off mid-sentence, and Council meetings have become a veritable dictatorship under our new Mayor, Andrew Hamilton. He has the gall to order people not to speak, to complain that he is being bullied, and to issue “time outs” when he thinks we aren’t listening to his decrees.
Developers and special interests need Robinson, Voigts and Hamilton to keep their choke hold on the city, so they are willing to spend a serious amount of money with attack ads and very misleading information. If you wish to know the REAL facts, click here. The issue we as residents have is their management of City contracts and failure to consider the safety and well-being of their constituents. The City has multiple methods that could easily save the taxpayers $4 million dollars per year, but they won't even bring it up for discussion.
What You Can Do To Help
Ask yourself if you want to live in a city where –
1) The Council majority ignores the critical needs of its residents.
2) The Council majority authorizes $1 million dollars to the OC Animal Shelter, which killed 10,000 animals last year and has been indicted FIVE times by the Grand Jury for inhumane treatment of animals and poor business practices.
3) We don’t even have Meals on Wheels for our seniors because the these three said it was “too much trouble” to provide a conference room where the volunteers could prepare hot meals.
4) Traffic is about to increase by 80,000 car trips a day because we have 5,000 new homes popping up with NO new schools, no new roads, and no new infrastructure.
If you are like us, and can no longer stand back and watch our city head in the wrong direction, then please sign our recall petition. Robinson, Voigts and Hamilton have been caught on tape violating the First Amendment rights of their own constituents. We have been harassed and intimidated by all three of them as we are trying to gather signatures and they have done so in violation of Federal and State Election Laws. So, ask yourself, do these gentlemen represent the types of leaders that you want for your city? We are all regular people who care about the quality of life for our families, and we are tired of politics as usual.
We need to take a stand before we have another City of Bell on our hands. Will you help us?
