Mario Lopez Talks #BonesLoveMilk At Popup Skateboarding Event

Mario Lopez skateboards with his son, & talks health, fitness, & family with the launch of the #BonesLoveMilk indoor popup skatepark in OC

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA —Mario Lopez is no stranger to shredding, and this week he introduced his middle son, Nico, to the sport of skateboarding at the #BonesLoveMilk popup skateboarding event in Huntington Beach. The event, hosted by the California Milk Processor Board, opens to the public Saturday, July 27 through Sunday, Aug. 4, and includes the young shredders of the #BonesLoveMilk skateboarding team: Christian Hosoi, Chris Cole, Tom Asta, Bryce Wettstein, and Cordano Russell.

Patch caught up with Lopez at the preview. He brought his son, Dominic, also known as Nico, and the two both tried their hands at skateboarding and watched the pros in action.

Lopez snapped some pics of Nico decked out in #BonesLoveMilk gear from helmet to knee pads.

"He's fearless and talented," Lopez said of his almost 6-year-old son. Nico took to skateboarding "just like his dad," Lopez told Patch. "I loved skateboarding when I was growing up, and it was so neat to see my kid go to work."

Father of Gia, 8, Dominic (Nico), 5, and newborn Santino, both Mario and wife Courtney, are raising their children to understand the power of proper nutrition and diet.

"We drink a lot of milk in Casa Lopez," he laughed. "Even more now, with my 3-week old baby, Santino."

This fall, Lopez joins "Access Hollywood" crew as a regular host. He currently hosts HGTV's "Supersize my Pool," and is producing the new sitcom "The Expanding Universe Ashley Garcia" on Netflix.

Still, the Chula Vista native remembers the early days from "Saved By The Bell," and the original "Got Milk" campaign from the 80s that Lopez took part in as a young actor.

"That original commercial was a blast, the neon cow, and 'Hey, Mr. Moo!" Lopez laughed.

The slogan may have changed, but the facts remain the same, and Lopez has come full circle, this time as a dad and fitness guru promoting healthy choices for youths.

"I’m all about health, fitness and promoting natural energy," Lopez said. "Drinking milk gives essential natural energy."

Sure, it's true. Teens and tweens reach for sugared beverages to quench their thirst. But the folks at CMPB hope their message gets across: milk is nature's nutritious exercise drink.
