More Bits and Pieces

Keeping you informed about what's happening in our City

Here’s some news that crosses my desk –

Little Free Library

In cooperation with three Cadette Girl Scouts a “Little Free Library” will be installed by June 21016 at the Sports Park. More news soon.

Youth in Government Day

Youth in Government Day to engage ETHS high schoolers is scheduled for the Fall in anticipation of the November elections. Maybe we can get them started even earlier with the special elections that may come in August or September. Getting people involved in government has been a big priority for me and I’m really happy to see this move forward.

Hotel Video

Staff created a Lake Forest Hotel video that is really spectacular, advertising our 10 hotels. They also enhanced the Sports Park page to accommodate visitors in need of lodging. Taxes from people who stay in hotels is a major income source for our City.

25th Anniversary Festival

The City is planning a Family Carnival on September 17 and it’s looking for local non-profits who want to use the event for fund raising. Contact the Recreation staff if you’re interested. It’s too bad my colleagues (Voigts-Hamilton-Robinson) turned down the nonprofit Community Foundation, but until we have this in place, here’s an opportunity for non-profits to work with the City. Please take advantage. This can be the first step in getting the Community Foundation back on track.

Whispering Hills Enhancement

Whispering Hills Enhancement is scheduled to start in May right after the water meter is installed. I advocated for this improvement more than 9 months ago so it’s good to see it finally happening.

Playground Inspections

Playground Inspections are being conducted now. Let the City know if there are problems in your playground.

Resurfacing Alton and Portola Pkwy

These projects will be advertised shortly, along with widening Portola Pkwy near the 241.

Community Resource Guide

An 8-page fully-colored publication intended for new community members, as we expect 12,000 more people to be moving into Lake Forest in the near future. The new publication was designed to be large so that it can be read while people are waiting in traffic.
