Orange County's 2014 Beautification Awards

Lake Forest landscaper receives prestigious honors

The Orange County chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) recently held the 2014 Beautification Awards honoring 14 local landscape contractors for excellence in landscape installation and maintenance, and demonstrating the best quality, construction, originality, and attention to detail on projects completed within the last year. A total of 47 awards were presented in 29 categories culled from 77 entries, which encompassed residential and commercial landscape construction, maintenance and renovation, along with water features, outdoor lighting and water-saving California-friendly landscaping.

Multiple awards winners include Richard Cohen Landscape of Lake Forest and Mission Landscape Companies of Santa Ana each with 6 awards and Visionscape of Laguna Beach with 9 awards

Single awards: DMA Greencare of Anaheim, Tierra Verde of Huntington Beach, Complete Landscape Care of Whittier, Bemus Landscape of Santa Ana, and Tropical Plaza Nursery of Villa Park.

The four top award winners are:

· Brilliance Award for the best overall lighting project combining workmanship, craftsmanship, and creativity to Visionscape of Laguna Beach for the Meberg Residence in San Clemente.

· Judges Award for the best landscape maintenance to Mission Landscape Companies of Santa Ana for Metro Pointe of South Coast in Costa Mesa.

· President’s Award for the best landscape installation, landscape renovation, or water conservation to DMA Greencare of Anaheim for Shores in Marina del Rey.

· Sweepstakes Award for the best overall entry from all categories to Visionscape of Laguna Beach for the Johnson Residence in Laguna Beach.

First place “winners” and second place “achievements” were presented, although not all categories warranted both types of awards. Award entries are judged by a panel of expert CLCA members from outside Orange County who spend three days closely inspecting each nomination for the quality of workmanship and materials utilized. Each landscaping entry must adhere to industry standards and have demonstrated proper execution. Special thanks to Tuttle Click Ford for providing the van used to transport the team of judges for the three days of landscape and lighting assessment.

CLCA is an active force in the statewide effort to conserve water. As water-efficient irrigation experts, many members are invaluable sources for consultations on planning and installing water-saving irrigation systems. CLCA also conducts an active public information program on landscape water management.
