Thanks Badge Recipients Siobhan Hickey and Sloane Petrillo at the Girl Scouts Celebrate Recognition Event on Sunday June 4th, 2017.
Long-time volunteer Siobhan Hickey received the Thanks Badge, an award reserved to honor members of the Girl Scout movement whose service to the organization has been truly outstanding and is so significantly over and above the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate. Siobhan is an advocate for girl-led travel opportunities for all Girl Scouts. She was the lead chaperone for the 2017 Presidential Inauguration trip where 19 OC girls and 8 chaperones visited Washington D.C. to experience the Inaugural festivities. Siobhan is also a member of the Global Action Group and mentors and trains troop leaders to travel with Girl Scouts.

Girl Scout Ambassador Cassandra Amirghahari from Troop 939 and Foothill Ranch residents Girl Scout Cadettes Hannah Comroe (13) and Sienna Wagner (14) from Troop 1859 were surprised with the Take Action Award, which recognizes Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors whose efforts to Take Action created lasting impact and inspired others to act to make the world a better place.
For her Gold Award project H.E.A.R.T. Cassandra Amirghahari partnered with Serrano Junior High and El Toro High School to create a weeklong awareness campaign about domestic violence. Hundreds attended a parent night Serrano Junior High, where a powerful presentation was given, illustrating how domestic violence affects the community. Due to her efforts, several schools are planning to implement a Safe Relationships week on their campuses in future years. Cassandra also received the Outstanding Senior Girl Scout Award, which is awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated their belief in the ideals of Girl Scouting through involvement in several areas, including excellence in school, in their community, and in Girl Scouting.

2017 Take Action Award Recipients: Sienna Wagner and Hannah Comroe from Lake Forest, Troop 1859 for their project, "PEACE Center Preschool Program"
For their Girl Scout Silver Award project "PEACE Center Preschool Program", Hannah Comroe and Sienna Wagner collaborated with Saddleback Church Peace Center in Lake Forest to create preschool classroom for children ages 4-5, including those where English is their second language. These Go-Getter Girl Scouts created several preschool necessities for the classroom, including seat cushions, felt storyboard, hanging calendars and flashcards to teach the kids about colors, letters, and numbers. They even collaborated with the Lake Forest Service Unit to collect school supplies for the classroom. With the completion of the classroom, the Peace Center will be able to prepare children for Kindergarten.
Reflecting on the award recipients, Girl Scouts of Orange County CEO Nancy Nygren shared her gratitude. “I am very proud to take part in this celebration, honoring some of the hardest working, most dedicated volunteers any organization could have. Together, we are educating our communities about the importance and relevancy of the Girl Scout Leadership Development Experience while changing thousands of girls’ lives for the better.”
