Sign Wars Part 3 -- BLOG

CITY WATCH looks at the latest turn of events

The picture above shows the latest technique in the Sign Wars Saga. Instead of stealing or knocking over signs, they place a sign directly in front of another sign so that the original sign is totally obscured. Look closely at the bottom and you’ll see my original sign sticking out.

I found Andrew Hamilton’s sign obscuring mine (shown above), and signs for Irvine politician Don Wagner (Scott Voigts refers to Wagner as his “boss”) obscuring my signs and the signs for Liz Miller and Tom Cagley.

Since last reported, more than 50 of the “challenger” (Cagley, Gardner, Healey, Miller) signs have been knocked over while this has been true for only a handful of the “insider” signs (Bass, Hamilton, McCullough, Voigts).

Some of Voigts’ staunch supporters are claiming that Voigts’ signs have all but disappeared from the streets. As of 5 pm yesterday, Voigts’ signs could be seen on all major East/West thoroughfares and were particularly thick on Lake Forest Drive near Trabuco, Lake Forest Drive near the 5, Bake Pkwy in FHR, Bake Pkwy below Trabuco, and El Toro East of Muirlands. Contrary to their claims, dozens of Voigts’ signs are all over the City.

LESSONS?

As I said on several occasions, the amount of money, time, and energy going into the Sign Wars is counter-productive. I wish that Hamilton, McCullough, and Voigts had agreed to the voluntary ban on signs, but they didn’t, and hence we are having these problems now. Perhaps a future Council will consider banning them on public streets and allowing them on private homes.
