Lake Forest is beginning a slurry seal of more than half the city’s residential streets. Judging from what’s been going on in my neighborhood, the contractor is doing a poor job. Prior to the actual slurry seal, the contractor is required to go through the streets and patch problem areas. Walking my dogs I found multiple problems. The pictures accompanying this article were taken on July 3 within 100 feet of my home.
· “Crack sealant shall be applied to singular longitudinal and transverse cracks of 1/8 inch or greater”, but I found dozens of cracks of 1/8 inch and larger than were untouched.
· “All excess sealant shall be removed from the crack with a minimum overlap onto adjacent pavement”, but I found many areas where the sealant was simply dripped over perfectly good areas.

· “The level of sealant must be flush with the existing pavement” but I found multiple areas where the sealant had settled leaving large gaps.
All 3 types of errors are illustrated in the pictures.

This level of workmanship is unacceptable. I notified the City. You should check your streets and notify the City if you find these problems. Unless the patch work is done well, the resulting slurry seal will not be effective.
