Soccer Mom Scores a Goal
"Secrets of a Soccer Mom" at Modjeska Playhouse is a fun filled play
Modjeska Playhouse’s second play has been on for a while but I just got to see it last night. It takes place on a soccer field while three engaging women reluctantly take the field in a mothers vs. sons soccer game. They intend to let the children win but as the game unfolds they become intent on scoring. The competition ignites a fierce desire to recapture their youthful good humor, independence, and sexiness.
Hailey Tweter plays the youngest of the trio, and you’ll remember her from “The 39 Steps” where she played the Eastern European vamp. Here she is the all-American girl, showing her versatility.
Shana Jean Martin performance mirrors her own life where she has 3 young boys and spends her time volunteering. Martin puts a lot of vim and vigor into the role and gets lots of laughs.

Kelly McNamara is the oldest of the trio, and you may recognize her from her role in the TV series Nash Bridges. McNamara is both sweet and saccharine, and we see in her the poignancy of life’s choices. Mid show she has a soliloquy about climbing rocks which touched everyone in the audience.
All told, another success for Modjeska Playhouse and the artistic director, Chris Sullivan.
