Two Arrested in Lake Forest Area Burglaries

Two 18-year-old men were arrested early Friday on suspicion of burglary on Myrtle st. One was found in possession of two stolen handguns.

LAKE FOREST, CA โ€” A tip from a resident near Myrtle street led to the arrest of two 18-year-old Compton residents on suspicion of burglary Friday morning. At least one of the suspects was in possession of a firearm according to Irvine Police.

Irvine Police Department Officers went to the 3000 block of Myrtle Street around 1:30 p.m. Thursday following a woman's tip on suspicious behavior in the area and observed two men exiting a home that had just been burglarized, police said.

Officers quickly detained one man, Kolin Javae Johnson, while the other fled on foot, police said. Johnson was found in possession of two handguns, one of which belonged to owners of the burglarized residence, police said.

"The Irvine Police Department began a search of the area, assisted by K-9 units and a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter," Irvine Police Department public information officers said. "Officers located Lorthridge hiding in the bushes in Tustin a short time later, and he was apprehended without further incident. Property stolen from the residence and burglary tools were recovered from the suspects."

Lorthridge and Johnson, both residents of Compton, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

Johnson also faces charges of possession of a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed firearm while Lorthridge will face a charge of resisting arrest, police said.
