Politics & Government

Why does James Gardner continue to play partisan politics when proven wrong? Maybe because he hasn't been fact-checked before

Continues LIE about Mello Roos, even when proven wrong by OC Supervisor & OC Register. Can Councilman Gardner ever be trusted again?

I believe Councilman James Gardner has had a "monopoly" for so long on the Patch that he has developed sloppy habits regarding the truth. With no one to fact-check his statements or challenge his veracity, he is able to go "off the reservation" and pretty much say anything he wants because nobody has challenged him in the past. He needs a reality check, needs to get his head out of an alternative universe - look out for our city's Future!

For example, in a recent post on the patch, Gardner continues his partisan attacks, saying "Robinson continues his lie about Mello Roos." Gardner says "No one eliminated Mello Roos!"

Let's see what the Orange County Register said about Mello Roos. The heading says it all:

The Orange County Register directly refutes Gardner's claim: "Foothill Ranch’s debt is projected to be paid in full in August 2019. Once the debt is redeemed, supervisors could dissolve the Community Facilities District or retask it to provide additional capital projects and services for the district, Woolery said."

"Bartlett’s office said factors could affect both the term and amount of the facilities district at any point, including projects being under budget, refinancing of bonds, private homeowners paying off obligations early, or developers footing the bill in order not to reduce the sales price of a new home."

"In contrast, the other option for the public agency to consider is whether there is a need for additional infrastracture, the email said. In that case, it is possible to extend the life or increase debt of a Mello Roos district for the purpose of providing public infrastructure."

“All of these actions require active management of public policymakers,” the email from Bartlett’s office said. “Local elected leaders and residents can influence the public policymaking process surrounding Mello Roos.”

Conclusions

1. It is very obvious from the OC Register that Orange County Supervisors control the actions of the Mello Roos districts in Lake Forest (Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills). Both Eric Woolery, OC's Auditor-Controller, and OC Supervisor Lisa Bartlett state that Mello Roos districts can be extended AFTER debts are paid off.

2. From Supervisor Bartlett's email, it is obvious that Robinson, Voigts and Hamilton have a relationship with her. Could it be that Gardner or Nick have not cultivated a relationship with Supervisor Bartlett? Don't they want the best for Lake Forest?

3. Why haven't they reached out to Supervisor Bartlett to try to get Mello Roos eliminated? Do they not understand that Supervisors control our Mello Roos districts in Lake Forest? Maybe he could use a lesson in how county government works.

4. Is Gardner not listening to current events? Maybe he is not as well informed as he should be.

5. This is yet another example of Gardner putting the "blast" on his colleagues? Especially when he is not correct.

How can Gardner be trusted anymore when he is so often wrong?
