City works with Autism Behavior Services to help special needs individuals

Wednesday night Autism Behavior Services (ABS) held a workshop for people who work with autistic individuals. The discussion was led by Occupational Therapists and involved problem solving in homes and schools. Most of the focus was on working with children, but some attention was also paid to adults. Attention also was paid to working with the various funding sources to insure that the right kind and number of services were being provided. Eight people were in attendance and everyone seemed to benefit from the one hour workshop. If you’re interested in ABS, click here.
In a related event the City is sponsoring a Special Needs Game Night at the Sports Park at 7 pm tonight (Saturday). Join us for a special evening of fun and games! We will play some of your favorite games such as Disney Guess Who, Giant Jenga, Battleship, and more! With Halloween right around the corner, we will also have a special spooky craft for you to create! Light refreshments will be served.
I’m really proud of how many activities we’ve held for people with special needs. Recently we had the special needs resource fair and we now have quarterly special needs dances.
